"I’m a firm believer in the idea that the best loves and motivations need to be cultivated. I didn’t see the beauty in math or physics or biology until I’d spent a lot of time not enjoying them, just ploughing through the painful learning process. Pretty much any complicated endeavor is going to have aspects of that. There’s a motivating current off-shore, but you’re gonna have to swim to it first. And it can be a tough swim.
Don’t wait and do nothing until you find yourself miraculously motivated - instead, start ploughing into subjects that are potentially interesting (be it chemistry or basket weaving) and see which ones start to move you over time.”
